Main results

Main results:

  • Develop a methodology for the classification of retreaded truck tyres that makes it possible to predict the environmental and safety performance (rolling resistance, noise emission and wet grip) of retreaded tyres and to compare the performance  with new tyres.
  • Transform the methodology into an intranet based software tool accessible for all associations of retreaders and their member as a service providing “labels” for retreaded tyres.

In view of the participants and partners the ReTyre project is successful if the results will be as follows:

  • The test results lead to a scientifically solid algorithm, performed by Vortech, in co-operation with both BASt and Idiada, thus creating the basic element to produce the IT-tool.
  • The IT-tool is fully incorporated in the Bipaver website and functioning to support the members (European SME retreading companies) of the member organisations of Bipaver.
  • The website is fully operational to support the communication and dissemination of the IT-tool.
After establishing the virtual casing (go/no go moment) it is clear that the test results will be the leading element for all results. Moreover the results can support the European Commission in the decision process to harmonise the labelling of retreaded tyres, respectively integrate the outcome and findings in a Type Approval, unique for retreaded tyres in the existing regulations.
